Three Wheel Scooters for Mobility
Mobility for the impaired has really improved over the last few years. Electric powered three wheel scooters for mobility has long since replaced the gas powered scooters of yesteryear. Scooter riders today fit into three categories; disabled, elderly and kids.
For the disabled and the elderly electric scooters provide mobility that is very convenience. The comfort and convenience is available today providing greater speeds and longer battery life for greater distance between recharges.
Many of today’s three wheel scooters for mobility require two sealed rechargeable 12V batteries. These batteries are installed in the scooter and may have one or two places to connect a charger. This way the batteries do not have to be removed to be recharged adding convenience.
The original technology was problematic with short battery life making for very short use times. But the technology has really improved over the years increasing battery life give the user 8 to 10 hours of drive time running at 3 to 7 mph. Distance traveled is equal to 15 to 28 miles and the technology is improving all the time. The drive to move away from petroleum had been the reason for all the improvements. The use of electric power for cars has been the driving force to master the new technologies.
Some of the advantages of electric mobility scooters have really improved over the years. Being able to steer in any direction up to 360 degrees with the use of a tiller is a real plus. The comfortable seating is mounted on a fixed stem that swivels and slides. The seating can be adjusted for the comfort of the user by moving forward or backward and rotating 360 degrees in either direction for easier on and off.
Your first thought is sure these scooters are very nice but how would I ever carry one with me? These scooters are available in two basic types. The first three wheel scooter can be folded and can be simply taken apart into 4 parts. Each part can be moved easily to the trunk of backseat of your car for transporting. The second type is the utility scooter version and cannot be taken apart. This design is more for traveling longer distance.
Today’s modern electric scooters begin in price at around a thousand dollars and up. Of course with a doctor’s prescription many health insurance carriers cover the costs. Many times three wheel scooters are needed for mobility after some type of an accident as well as elderly and the disabled.
